Maya Abdominal Therapy

The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy offer profoundly effective treatment for many concerns, including menstrual pain and irregularity, conception, stomach pain, digestive discomfort, uterine prolapse, and urinary incontinence. These techniques are founded on ancient practices of external abdominal massage, which gently guide the organs back to their optimal position. This process improves the flow of blood, lymph, nerve impulses and energy throughout the abdomen, restoring balance and allowing the body to heal.

The approach is similar to massage in some ways and also feels more technical at times, with the careful and subtle movement of abdominal organs. Therapeutic touch is also applied to the pelvis and low back, and the upper abdomen and diaphragm are given a deep, thorough massage to loosen the tight muscles around the stomach and the arteries that feed the digestive and eliminative organs with their vital blood supply. Part of the initial session also involves education in self-application of these techniques, for continued healing and self-care.

I also offer uterus and yoni-centered practices such as yoni steam and castor oil packs to increase fertility, if desired, and release toxins from the generative organs. In addition to general abdominal health, as described below, the Arvigo techniques are very helpful for people with a uterus and/or ovaries, and for those who have had either or both removed. The techniques can also enhance pregnancy and aid in labor and birthing.

Listed below are some of the symptoms commonly alleviated by incorporating these techniques into one’s health care. If you have specific concerns that aren’t listed here, please talk with me to find out if this technique could address your needs.

*Pelvis, low back, sacrum, sacroiliac (SI), and coccyx pain or injuries

*Abdominal pain and tension, including uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts, and restricted breathing due to tension

*Emotional challenges like low energy, stress and fear, which can open into relaxation, intuition and personal empowerment

*Menstrual or ovulatory depression, pain or irregularity, endometriosis, scar tissue from uterine surgery or hysterectomy, miscarriage, difficulty conceiving, prolapsed uterus, peri menopause, and menopausal symptoms

*Bladder concerns, such as urinary incontinence, bleeding, bladder or yeast infections, prolapsed bladder, pee while laughing or sneezing. --Many people say that they get better results than from surgery to stop peeing while laughing or sneezing.

*Digestive issues, such as constipation, diarrhea, stomach pains, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gastro esophageal reflux (GERD), chronic indigestion and heartburn

The Arvigo Techniques were developed by Dr. Rosita Arvigo, DN based on her apprenticeship with the Maya healer Don Elijio Panti and her own education, training, and research as a naprapathic physician. I have received permission to practice this work from teachers within the tradition, but my lineage is not personally connected with those communities. I am honored to learn with the network of Arvigo practitioners who are doing this work, and to share this healing modality with my community.
